Guided history walks 2025

More guided river history walks to come, with the extended funding for BFER. First event was a family friendly short walk in Brandon on Thursday 10 April 2025 – read a short report. Later this year the Brecks Outdoor Festival 9-24 August will be packed with events, including several by @OSBrecks volunteers.

We’ve done several river history walks, swim walks and swim intro events over the last few years, including in last year’s festival. Read more about them on the project update pages – history walks (and more) and outdoor events.

Our first walk this year will be a family friendly short walk on paths and green spaces in Brandon with activities for all ages about local river, meadow and woodland wildlife, the archaeology and history of the area and stories about having fun swimming and fishing in the river.

The leisurely walk will start and finish at Brandon Leisure Centre. We will go along the Avenue and visit the Orchard, and go down to the river by the staunch. We will look at the two new display panels – Brandon Staunch and Brandon Orchard (which should be in place by then). The walk will be led by @OSBrecks volunteers and run by BFER, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The event is also supported by Brandon Remembrance Playing Fields and Brandon Town Council.
